ABOUT THE COMPANY:

In 2003, a group of Franklin HS students created a dance club called FUSION. The students named the group FUSION to represent the diverse mix of students united because of their love and passion for the discipline and art of dance. The group held auditions and selected the most advanced dancers of various dance styles to establish the first dance company at Franklin HS. The company conditioned after-school in the dance room during rehearsals and focused on different dance techniques including ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. The company learned how to choreograph through improvisation and guidance from different directors and guest artists from the community.

In 2006, Joseph Candelaria was hired to become the Franklin HS Dance Teacher. Mr. Candelaria worked professionally as a dancer and choreographer, he had an extensive dance background ranging from hip-hop street styles to traditional classical ballet to participating in numerous studio competitions, festivals and productions. Mr. Candelaria or “Candel” saw potential in the after-school dance club established nearly 3 years prior to his arrival, and decided to transform the club into pat of the dance curriculum at Franklin HS. In 2007 he directed his first Main Stage for FUSION. Over the years, Mr. Candelaria has developed the company while staying true to the original vision created by the first group of students. In 2009, Candel also created an APPRENTICE Company, to provide an opportunity for more students at Franklin HS to be able to choreograph and perform on-stage. In 2010, Candel also added an additional performance, Showcase, an annual concert developed solely by the students to honor student choreography created throughout the year and to say farewell to the graduating senior dancers. In 2014, Mr. Candelaria expanded FUSION to begin competing, in 2015, the company competed in their first National Dance Competition and qualified for the championship round. Aside from producing their annual Main Stage & Showcase productions, FUSION also participates in the Public Education Dance Alliance’s Dancefest, an annual fundraising event that benefits a local charity. Over the past 15 years, FUSION has maintained their image, vision, and good  reputation on-campus and in the community at spirit rallies and events, workshops, performances, outreach programs for middle and elementary schools, production and competitions. Many of the company’s alumni have continued dancing in local, college,  and professional dance crews and companies. Comic Book Villains (2018) is FUSION’s 15th annual Main Stage. Our next production, Showcase, will take place May 4th and 5th at 7:00pm. Auditions for the 2018-2019 school year will take place February 26-March 1st.
